David Kaemmer - About Me
I started as the music teacher at Our Lady of Unity in August of 2015. I came in with a rich background as a professional musician and private music teacher for violin and guitar. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Music Performance from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Next I spent 8 years in Arizona where I taught 45 private music lessons a week and became the director/conductor of a 25 member youth orchestra. I travelled around AZ and NM with my students, winning fiddle contests and selling fiddle CDs. After moving to Shawnee, KS I played violin with the Wichita and Des Moines Symphonies and went on a summer country music tour playing fiddle and mandolin with Chris Filer. I continue to teach private lessons on violin and guitar along with teaching music at OLU on Thursdays and Fridays.
I have been a Christian my whole life. I went through RCIA in 2011 and fell in love with the Catholic faith, I am convinced it’s the greatest treasure I will ever possess. Spending time with God in prayer is a top priority for me everyday and one of my favorite things to do. I'm very involved at our parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus in Shawnee, KS. I have been through the Christ Renews His Parish program and started a Catholic book club with a group of friends. I am in charge of the parish Sunday night basketball and served for many years as a small group leader for Confirmation candidates. I also serve as a cantor and lector.
I am originally from Fenton, MO which is in the St. Louis area. My wife, Emily, is from Wichita, KS. We met in college through the Vanderbilt University ROTC program and both spent 4 years as officers in the US Army. We have four children, Ella, Arthur, Clare, and Luke. Ella is a junior, Arthur is a freshman, Clare is in 6th grade and Luke is in 2nd grade. I like to exercise, running is my favorite but I also swim in the summer. My favorite sports are basketball and tennis. We like the outdoors and go on trips when we can.
